Collier wants red-light lawsuit dismissed

Collier County has filed a four-page motion to dismiss a lawsuit challenging red-light cameras on Collier County streets.

In August a West Palm Beach law firm filed lawsuits in Collier against 22 other local governments using the controversial method to catch red-light runners.

Now Collier County wants the lawsuit dismissed, in part because of something called the “unclean hands doctrine.” Essentially, that means the people in the lawsuit already admitted guilt for running the red-lights, and paid the fines. Now they want to file the lawsuit.

There is one red-light camera in Lee County at Colonial Boulevard and Summerlin Road, but it is used for research purposes, not for ticketing, yet.
