Mariner names new coach

Mariner High School named Chris Siner as its new head football coach today.

Siner, a 1994 Mariner graduate, replaces Chad O’Brien, who resigned on Aug. 2 to take become the defensive coordinator at Sienna Heights University, an NAIA school in Adrian, Mich., his home state. The Tritons went 11-19 in three seasons under O’Brien.

First day no problem for Mariner Tritons

One week and one day after former Mariner football coach Chad O’Brien announced he would be leaving to take a college job in his native Michigan, the Tritons hit the field.

They did so early and under the direction of offensive coordinator Steve Larsen, who has been named interim coach.

Practice was scheduled to start at 8 a.m., but as of 7:55 a.m., almost every player kneeled in front of Larsen for a quick talk. They then started stretching and got right to the business of preparing for the 2010 season. (more…)

Mariner football update

Mariner High School lost its football coach, Chad O’Brien, on Monday, just one week before 2010 season practices begin.

O’Brien accepted a coaching job in his native Michigan.

Mariner athletic director Vito Mennona announced today that longtime assistant football coach and baseball coach Steve Larsen has been named interim coach. The Tritons will be looking to fill a permanent replacement as soon as possible and perhaps as soon as next week. (more…)

Mariner star RB, Island Coast QB out of game

Mariner High star running back Eric Mitchell will not play tonight at Island Coast due to a leg injury.

Island Coast quarterback Mike Dumas suffered an arm injury in the first half against the Tritons and is not expected to return.
