Lely DB Faustin commits to Purdue

Lely senior defensive back Jhony Faustin verbally committed to Purdue Wednesday, according to rivals.com.

The 5-foot-10, 170-pound Faustin, who runs a 4.41 40,  had 51 tackles and one interception in 2008.

Lely RB Darion Hall suspended for tonight’s game

The hits just keep coming for the Lely football team.

Star running back Darion Hall will not play against Gulf Coast tonight. The senior, who has committed to the University of Miami, was suspended from the team Thursday.

“I’m not playing, unfortunately,” Hall said, declining to discuss the details of his suspension. “No comment really. I’m coming back next week.” (more…)

Lely coach Steve Pricer resigns

Lely football coach Steve Pricer announced his resignation Thursday, citing health reasons including a recent knee surgery.

Pricer was in his third season as head coach of the Trojans, but has spent 34 years working with the school’s football program. Lely’s defensive coordinator Dave Miller will assume the coaching role, effective immediately.  (more…)

Lely and Neumann games postponed

Tonight’s games between Lely and Miami Gulliver Prep, and St. John Neumann and  Miami Westminster Christian have been postponed due to inclement weather and lightning in the Miami area. Lely will play at 11 a.m. Saturday, while Neumann will likely postpone its matchup until week 11, barring either team advancing to the playoffs. (more…)

Collier school district cancels preseason game fearing swine flu

The School District of Collier County has canceled Lely High School’s preseason football game against Tampa Catholic on Friday, after the district learned that as many as 10 of the Tampa Catholic players are suspected to have H1N1 influenza, swine flu.
