Korenzo Smith new QB for Gulf Coast

Senior Korenzo Smith will be Gulf Coast High’s starting quarterback after junior Darby McCormick suffered a severe shoulder separation in Friday’s game against Naples.

Smith had been the Sharks’ wide receiver. The 5-foot-10, 150-pound Smith played in two varsity games at QB last season.
“He’s gonna start,” Gulf Coast coach Frank Tudryn said. “It’s logical. It’s not a position where you can sit there and say, ‘What do we do now?’”
Junior Austin Masse will be the back up. “He’s a good back up, a dependable kid,” Tudryn said. (more…)

Gulf Coast QB out for the season with collarbone fracture

Gulf Coast junior quarterback Darby McCormick will miss the rest of the season after suffering a compound collarbone fracture Friday night. McCormick was sacked by a Naples defender in the fourth quarter when the bone snapped. The Sharks lost the game 21-7.

McCormick replaced record setting quarterback Jeff Schmidt this season. In his first two games, McCormick completed 17-of-32 passes for 225 yards and three touchdowns. (more…)

Lely RB Darion Hall suspended for tonight’s game

The hits just keep coming for the Lely football team.

Star running back Darion Hall will not play against Gulf Coast tonight. The senior, who has committed to the University of Miami, was suspended from the team Thursday.

“I’m not playing, unfortunately,” Hall said, declining to discuss the details of his suspension. “No comment really. I’m coming back next week.” (more…)
