Wave set state wins record

Saturday, September 5th, 2009

Add one more accolade to the storied tradition of Fort Myers High School football.
With its 41-20 victory over visiting Cypress Lake on Sam Sirianni Night at Edison Stadium — No. 594 for the program — the Green Wave became the all-time winningest team in state history.
“It’s a great tribute to the consistency and longevity of the program,” said Fort Myers coach Sam Sirianni Jr. “When you see the other names on that list, it’s flattering.”
Fort Myers entered Friday in a tie with Lake City Columbia for the most wins in state history with 593.

The Tigers traveled to three-time Georgia state champion Charlton County Friday where the teams played to a 48-48 tie.
So for at least the next week, the biggest winners in Florida’s high school football history, reside at Edison Stadium.
