Weather knocks out Cape-Riverdale, South-Barron Collier

Friday, August 27th, 2010

As soon as Cape Coral High School officials decided to postpone the team’s preseason game from Friday to 5  p.m. today, the rain temporarily quit falling.
But as first-year coach Brad Metheny pointed out, there was standing water on Dave Warkentin Field.
The Riverdale Raiders will return Saturday.
“It would have been at least a two-hour wait to get the field to where we thought it would be safe,” Metheny said. “We were all in agreement that tonight was a wash.”
Metheny previously coach at inland Frostproof, where he did not have as much trouble with rain.
“We haven’t had but one day since last Thursday, that we’ve been out on the fields,” Metheny said of practices. “It’s been a rough week getting ready for a game, I can tell you that.”

South Fort Myers lost a home game. The Wolfpack will head to Barron Collier to play on the FieldTurf instead of ripping up their own grass. The team’s will play at 7:30 p.m.
